"Love and business and family and religion and art and patriotism are nothing but shadows of words when a man's starving."
~O. Henry, Heart of the West, 1907
The Denver Foundation is committed to addressing the root causes of community issues. Poverty is undeniably at the crux of many other challenges that Metro Denver residents face, particularly as one in five households in our region don't have the resources to meet their basic needs....and Colorado's increase in child poverty is the highest in the nation over the last ten years.
In an effort to explore the issue of poverty and how it impacts the lives of our neighbors, the Foundation's Philanthropic Leadership Committee asked staff to create an overview of the state of poverty in our region. We also compiled a study of the many ways that The Denver Foundation is already addressing this issue through our various programs. Please click on the links below.
Numerous foundations and nonprofit organizations are working to address poverty in Metro Denver. The research in the overview is simply a snapshot in time; the links below will connect you directly to the organizations that can offer the most up-to-date information.
