Strengthening Neighborhoods

The Denver Foundation's Strengthening Neighborhoods Program (SNP) works with residents of partner neighborhoods to help them make their communities better places to live.

Our grants program provides grants of up to $5,000 to support neighborhood projects that are as diverse as the ideas and imagination of the residents who create them.  The only requirement is that projects be done by residents for the benefit of their community.

SNP’s grants focus on improving life in eight Denver neighborhoods, Commerce City and Original Aurora (see sidebar for list of Partner Neighborhoods).  Click the icon below to read more...

What is Strengthening Neighborhoods?

SNP projects have included literacy and after-school recreation programs, block parties, neighborhood fairs and carnivals, education reform campaigns, block clean-ups, community gardening activities, sports leagues, neighborhood-wide art showcases, development of neighborhood plans, large-scale community organizing efforts, publication of neighborhood newsletters, and many other activities and events.

SNP also offers technical assistance to help neighborhood groups develop their capacity to be effective neighborhood builders, as well as an eight-month leadership program to help residents develop their leadership skills in the context of specific neighborhood-building projects.

In 2005, the Strengthening Neighborhoods Program gave over 178 grants to neighborhood groups, totaling more than $254,000.  Since its inception in 1998, SNP has granted more than $1.5 million to support resident-led projects in its 10 partner communities!
