The Denver Foundation offers a number of scholarship programs for which students and teachers can apply.  Please scroll down to view program descriptions.  If applications are currently being accepted, a description of where to obtain an application will be listed or there will be an icon below the program description (double click on the icon for a printable application).

Scholarships for Colorado High School Students

RBC Dain Rauscher Colorado Scholarship Fund
The RBC Dain Rauscher Colorado Scholarship Fund was founded in 2003 through the initiative of RBC Dain Rauscher.  The goal of this fund is to provide scholarships for post-secondary education to outstanding Colorado high school seniors.  This scholarship is intended to reward students for exceptional achievement, above and beyond their peers.  Five $5,000 scholarships will be awarded in 2008 to students intending to pursue a degree in science or engineering.  This scholarship is open to students graduating from a Colorado high school in the spring of 2008.  Applicants must have at least a 3.75 cumulative grade point average and completed college preparatory coursework relevant to the field of study that they wish to pursue.  Students that have a parent, step-parent, grandparent, aunt, or uncle who is employed by RBC Dain Rauscher are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.  The 2008 application deadline has now passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.


Colorado Press Association Scholarship Fund - High School Student Internship Program
Students are selected to complete a 10 week internship at the newspaper of their choice.  Internships can involve reporting, photography, page design, ad design, or advertising sales.  A $500 stipend is provided upon successful completion of the internship.  Some newspapers will provide a salary.  The deadline to apply for a summer 2009 internship is April 3, 2009.  Click on the icon below to print information about how to apply for an internship.

Scholarships for Students Who Attended or Who are Graduating from Specific Colorado High Schools


Big Jon Platt Scholarship Fund
Three $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to students graduating from Montbello High School: one to a student with a desire to pursue a career in the music industry, one to a student who has overcome adversity, and one to a student who has an excellent academic and community service background.  The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.

Brian Pankau Memorial Scholarship Fund

One time $1,500 scholarships awarded annually to one male and one female senior from Middle Park High School in memory of Brian Pankau. Students who are involved in track, volleyball, basketball, and cross country, or may be interested in the fine arts, band or choir, or journalism and broadcasting are particularly encouraged to apply.  The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the availability of the 2009 application.

Columbine Memorial Scholarship Fund (for Students)

Fifteen scholarships awarded annually for individuals with financial need as follows: four scholarships of $3,000 to graduating Columbine High School seniors, one scholarship to a Columbine High School faculty member, ten scholarships of $1,700 to graduating Jefferson County high school seniors, and one $1,500 scholarship to a Jefferson County high school teacher or school professional.  Student applicants must have at least a 2.5 G.P.A. and have been accepted at an accredited college, university, or trade school.  The 2008 deadline for this program was March 21.  Applications are no longer being accepted.  The 2009 application will be posted in February, 2009.

The Dave Sanders Memorial Scholarship Fund

Four $2,000 scholarships awarded annually to students graduating from Columbine High School.  This fund was established by the Colorado Masons and received donations from all over the world in honor and memory of Dave Sanders.  Two of the scholarships will be awarded to students who have been involved with athletics.  All applicants must have attended Columbine High School for a minimum of two years and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.

GWH Scholarship Fund

Two-four scholarships of $1,000 - $8,000 awarded to students with financial need from selected rural Colorado high schools (please see page two of the application for a list of high schools included in the program).  Current high school seniors and students who graduated within the last two years who will be studying full-time or part-time are eligible to apply.  Recipients can renew their scholarships for up to 3 years if they meet certain requirements.  The 2008 application deadline has now passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.

The Jim and Peggy Curtis Scholarship Fund

One or more scholarships of $1,000 - $4,000 each awarded annually to students graduating from Moffat Senior High School or Mountain Valley Senior High School.  Awards can be used for full-time or part-time study at a trade school, a technical school, a community college, or a 4-year college.  Students do not need to have applied to or been accepted into a school at the time that they apply for this scholarship.  The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Please check here for the 2009 application in February 2009.


John W. and Edna Wilson Mosley Scholarship Fund
Up to three scholarships of $2,000 awarded to graduating seniors from Montbello High School, Aurora Central High School, or Smoky Hill High School.  Recipients are selected based on financial need, academic achievement, character, and school and community involvement.  The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.


Judge Donald E. Cordova Scholarship Fund
Scholarships of up to $3,000 will be awarded annually to a Latino/a high school senior from Las Animas or Huerfano County.  Applicants must have earned at least a 3.0 G.P.A., be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, and have been accepted to a two- or four-year college or university.   The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application. 

Longmont Community Foundation Scholarships
The Longmont Community Foundation offers a number of scholarship programs for students from the St. Vrain Valley.  For eligibility and application information, please go to www.longmontfoundation.org.  The Longmont Community Foundation is an affiliate of The Denver Foundation.

Raymond and Velma Merkle Scholarship Fund
Scholarships of varying amounts are awarded annually to high school seniors from Littleton High School.  Applicants must be a first generation college student, have a 2.75 cumulative GPA, be active in their school or community and have been accepted into a trade school, technical school, a community college, or a 4-year college.  The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.

Colorado Press Association Scholarship Fund

Internships and scholarships for college journalism students.  Selected students are placed with a Colorado newspaper for a 10 week internship.  A $2,500 scholarship is sent to each student's school upon successful completion of their internship.  Most newspapers provide a salary and some provide housing assistance.  The deadline to apply for a summer 2009 internship is October 31, 2008.  Click on the icons below to print additional information and an application.

Helen M. McLoraine NonProfit Employee Scholarship Fund

Scholarships of varying amounts awarded to students who work at one of the 100 Denver area nonprofit organizations that were selected for the pilot program. (Please see list on application form.)  Applicants can be full-time or part-time students taking undergraduate or graduate classes. Applicants who receive a scholarship this year will be encouraged to re-apply for a scholarship next year.  The 2008 application deadline has now passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.


Reisher Family Scholarship Fund
Scholarships awarded to Colorado residents who attend Metropolitan State College, the University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Colorado at Denver. Sophomores or transferring juniors who do not have sufficient funding to otherwise complete their degrees are eligible to apply. Students must have at least a 3.0 G.P.A. and show promise of making a future contribution to the community through service, leadership, work, or unusual experiences. Recipients are provided funding that covers their unmet need for up to three years assuming the student continues to remain in good academic standing. Applications can be obtained from the financial aid offices of participating schools.

Winifred R. Reynolds Educational Scholarship Fund

Scholarship of varying amounts awarded to students pursuing a graduate degree in Early Childhood education, Child Development, or an equivalent field at Colorado State University, the University of Colorado at Denver, the University of Denver, or the University of Northern Colorado. Applicants must have financial need and have earned at least a 3.5 G.P.A. for any graduate level work that they have completed.  The 2008 application deadline has now passed.  Check here mid-February 2009 for the 2009 application.


Scholarships for Teachers


Colorado Press Association Scholarship Fund - High School Newspaper Advisor Program
Teachers and professional school staff members are selected to complete a 2 week internship at the newspaper of their choice.  The internship is designed to give high school newspaper advisors the opportunity to meet with publishers, editors, advertising directors, and production managers to discuss news coverage, ad sales, technology, page design and editing.  A $500 stipend is provided upon successful completion of the internship.  The deadline to apply for a summer 2009 internship is April 3, 2009.  Click on the icon below to print additional information and an application.

Columbine Memorial Scholarship Fund (for Teachers and Professional Staff)

One $1,500 scholarship awarded annually to a Jefferson County high school teacher or professional staff member.  The 2008 deadline for this program was March 21.  Applications are no longer being accepted.  The 2009 application will be posted in February, 2009.


Mikkelson Education Fund

Scholarships of varying amounts awarded to math and science teachers at the middle and high school levels to allow them to attend short courses, seminars, and workshops which will improve or renew their technical knowledge and skills.  The 2008 application deadline has passed.  Information about this program is available at www.mikkelson.com.

Denver Country Club Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for employees of the Denver Country Club.  Applications are available through the Human Resources office at the Denver Country Club.

Desert Storm Memorial Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for the children of Colorado armed forces personnel who were killed or permanently disabled during Operation Desert Storm.  Eligible students were confirmed through a qualification process completed in 1991: Daniel Dillon, Jessica Dillon, Gregory S. Hook, David J. Hook, Aimie L. Hook, David Krick, and Kasey P. Scott.

Florence Carrie Harris Scholarship Fund

The Educational Options for Children Fund
Scholarships for low income students to attend K-12 private schools.  The fund is not accepting applications at this time.

The Francis H. Mahon Scholarship Fund

George Delos Gardner/Eugene Delos Gardner Scholarship Fund

Janus Next Generation Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for the children of Janus employees.  Applications are available through the Human Resources office at Janus.  The 2008 deadline is April 22, 2008.

King Soopers "Hope" Scholarship Fund

Students at Fairview and Rosedale Elementary Schools were selected to receive awards of $450 or $500 each semester for academic achievement. The funds are held in trust by The Denver Foundation until the student graduates from high school and enrolls in a college, technical school, or other program.  The last scholarships were awarded in the Spring of 2001.  At this time there are no plans to award more scholarships.  If you received an award through this program and would like to claim your scholarship, please contact Nicole Holst at 303-300-1790 ext. 132 or nholst@denverfoundation.org.

Note:
The best source of scholarship information is often the Financial Aid Department of the school the student will be attending. Most schools have a number of scholarships for which only their students are eligible. Talking with librarians and high school guidance counselors can often turn up opportunities.
