This article was submitted by Metro Denver nonprofit organization, A Precious Child. A Precious Child provides children in need with opportunities and resources to empower them to achieve their full potential. Serving over 57,000 children and their adult caregivers in our Metro Denver/Boulder 8 county service area (Boulder, Jefferson, Adams, Douglas, Weld, Arapahoe, Denver, Broomfield) through five Economic Mobility Initiatives and 10 Programs.
Our work can best be exemplified in Candi’s story, one of the thousands of our client stories that illustrate the difference A Precious Child makes in our community. Thanks to generous donors, we were able to provide Candi’s family with a glimmer of hope at a time when she felt hopeless.
Last April, she tried to find housing for her family. She was faced with discrimination from every housing organization she submitted applications to. She became discouraged and was ready to give up when she was referred to A Precious Child.
Together with our Empowerment team, she set her goals to find housing, enroll her daughter in daycare, receive necessary essential clothing, provided diapers and wipes, and register for an IT certification program. During a recent visit to A Precious Child, Candi shared, “All of this made me feel like I had a whole support system, gave me hope and the opportunities I needed for my family. A Precious Child was there for us at our worst. Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe how much you mean to me.”
Candi credits A Precious Child for helping her get access to the daycare and housing assistance she needed to lead a self-sufficient lifestyle and looks forward to graduating this December with her IT certification.
