The purpose of the Jim and Jean Hertzel Scientific Mind Award Scholarship is to support STEM-focused graduating high school seniors in pursuing college or trade/tech school.
Eligibility
- Colorado high school senior
- Cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5+
- Pursuing a STEM-focused degree or certification
- Demonstrates ‘grit’: passion and perseverance for long-term goals, resilience, conscientiousness, and a commitment to growth despite setbacks and failures
Selection criteria
Applications will be reviewed based on:
- Academic performance
- Scholastic potential
- Commitment to the field/passion for the work
- Resilience and persistence
- Strong aptitude for Science, Mathematics, Technology, or Engineering (STEM)
Award details
- Scholarship Range: $5,000 and $10,000
- Typical Number of Awards:
- This scholarship is renewable for up to four additional years while pursuing an undergraduate degree. Must meet eligibility requirements every year
- Award amounts may be used towards recipient’s tuition, fees, room, and board
- All scholarships will be paid directly to a recipient’s post-secondary institution. Award disbursement is contingent upon the outside scholarship policies of a recipient’s post-secondary institution
- Award must be used for the upcoming academic year
