Support food assistance in Colorado

While the federal shutdown has reopened, we are continuing to support food banks and assistance programs through our Critical Needs Fund, as many residents are still in need of food.

Over the past few weeks, nonprofits have mobilized to meet the surge in need and get food out to our community, and people throughout Colorado are stepping up to help.

Since October 30, 92 people have joined in to support our Critical Needs Fund, totaling nearly $30,000 in donations.

Across our Critical Needs Fund and grants from fundholders at The Denver Foundation, we’ve worked together to send $369,665 to nonprofits supporting food access.

Our community still needs your support. With changes to H.R. 1, also known as OBBBA, Colorado health officials estimate as many as 79,000 recipients will lose SNAP benefits.

Give to our Critical Needs Fund, which will support food banks and assistance programs during this time.

Food banks across Colorado are preparing for an unprecedented surge in need as the federal government shutdown continues. Starting Nov. 1, many people will find themselves without food and nutrition benefits.

According to NPR, “nearly 42 million people rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, previously known as food stamps… Most recipients are seniors, families with kids and people with disabilities.”

In Colorado, nearly 600,000 people will be impacted, “half are children, 10% are elderly and 15% have a disability.” (Read more on Axios).

“We are facing a crisis unlike anything we’ve ever seen,” said Erin Pulling, CEO of the Food Bank of the Rockies, which serves half the state. (Read more on Axios).
