Elevating innovation

August 9, 2024

Support for addressing environmental issues goes beyond grantmaking and policy work. We use our investment strategy to elevate innovative climate efforts across the country, primarily through our Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI) Pool.

We established the SRI Pool in December 2010 as an option for donors interested in investing for both social and financial returns. Our most mission-aligned investment option, the SRI Pool has grown significantly over the last decade and now has a market value of nearly $252 million.

“We use our investment strategy to elevate innovative climate efforts across the country, primarily through our sustainable and responsible investment (SRI) pool.”

The SRI Pool includes investments in climate and clean energy projects, including the Carlyle Renewable & Sustainable Energy Fund. This fund acquires stakes in renewable (such as solar and wind power and battery storage systems) and sustainable energy companies (such as electric vehicle infrastructure or decarbonization) “through a private equity value-creation approach.”

The foundation also invests in the Generation IM Sustainable Solutions Fund through the SRI Pool. This fund “seeks typically minority equity stakes in growth-stage businesses with well-established technology and commercial traction in low carbon solutions transforming mobility, food, energy, and enterprise.”
