Terry L. Priest Scholarship


For students interested in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management


The Terry L. Priest Scholarship supports students who are committed to the field of transportation, logistics, or supply chain management and are passionate about the industry. 

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate transportation, logistics, or supply chain program at an accredited trade or technical school, community college, or four-year college/university in the United States
  • Enrollment must be part-time status or more as defined by your school’s policy
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Plan to pursue a career in the transportation, logistics, or supply chain field
  • Demonstrate financial need

Selection

Recipients will be selected based on:

  • academics
  • demonstrated commitment to the field/passion for the work
  • financial need

Previous applicants and recipients are welcome to apply. 

 

Additional information

Scholarship awards will be paid directly to a recipient’s educational institution and can be used toward tuition, fees, and books only. Please note that award disbursement is contingent upon the outside scholarship policies of a recipient’s college or university. Awards must be used for the upcoming academic year.

  2. Prepare and submit the following items:

    2. Transcript 
    3. Two essays 
      1. Please share why you chose to pursue a degree in Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management and what your short and long-term goals are.  
      2. Describe your involvement in the transportation/logistics/supply chain profession and/or the community in general through internships, clubs, activities, jobs, etc. Please note any leadership positions that you have held.  
    4. One academic reference

Terry L Priest Photo.2011 (1)The Terry L. Priest Scholarship Fund was established by The Denver Transportation Club through donations made by numerous friends and professional associates. 

Terry L. Priest began his employment as an agent/telegrapher with the Union Pacific Railroad, with time out for military duty. He then went to work for J.R. Simplot Company as a  corporate traffic manager. Terry went on to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Aviation and Transportation from Boise State University, then a Master’s Degree in Transportation Law. He also studied at Syracuse University and MIT.  

Terry then went to work for Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colo. as a corporate commerce manager. After an 18-year career with Coors Brewing Company, he turned to teaching at the University of Colorado at Denver. He held the highest leadership posts at the American Society of Transportation and Logistics, whose mission is to advance transportation education. In addition to the many awards Terry earned over the years, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Colorado Transportation Community for his dedication to transportation education.

Terry passed away on May 19, 2002, at the age of 60. Terry L. Priest spent his entire professional career seeking ways to provide opportunities to students interested in pursuing transportation, logistics, and supply chain careers.
